This week I’m doing a 7-day juice detox. Jeez, just writing that’s making me feel hungry…
I’ll preface this by saying that I don’t think ‘detox’ is quite the right word for what I’m doing. The human body does a pretty brilliant job at ‘detoxing’ itself.
However, 7 days of drinking vitamin and mineral rich juice – whilst skipping my unhealthy eating choices – is a brilliant kick-start to a healthier 2013. It’s more of a mental, rather than physical thing I think. I don’t know about you guys but I definitely respond to the cold-turkey school of motivation. (My god i’d kill something small and cute for a bite of turkey right now…)
Just 7 days and I’ll be in a position where I’ve lost a bit of (water) weight and the thought of eating processed food will genuinely make me feel a bit nauseous. It’s a short term plan for long term gains. Even after 2 days, I can tell you I’ll be working veggie juices into my diet from now onwards.
Day 1 was tough, headaches from carb withdrawal are never fun. It’s Day 2 today, I feel sprightly and have already adopted a holier-than-thou tone when discussing the detox with friends. I feel good.
All of this, by the way, is being aided by my shiny new Philips Avance Collection Juicer. For a lazy person like me, it’s pretty much the ideal. You don’t have to chop things to juice them (just wash and shove that apple/carrot/beetroot straight in) and it’s really easy to clean. All you have to do is pop out the pulp filter, scoop out the remnants (compost them) and rinse. 60 second job.
I’ll let you guys know how I got on next week. Right now it’s time for another glass of sludge juice!

Good on you for giving it a go, mate.
Have considered doing something like this before but figured I’m too much of a gym monkey to do with carbs for a week.
